Category: Anti-Acne

As promised on my previous post: HERE, I will give a review on the products, there are 3 of them. All from Mario Badescu.

The Herbal Hydrating Serum, Enzyme Cleansing Gel and Acne Facial Gel.

On the plate, I was playing with the texture, colors and smell.  But first, let read some information.

All details from

Acne Facial Cleanser

Prevent and heal existing acne with our exfoliating and deep cleansing wash formulated with acne-fighting Salicylic Acid. Contains Aloe Vera and Chamomile, two natural ingredients that calm and soothe acne inflamed skin. For best results follow with our Special Cucumber Lotion or recommended astringent.

How to Use: Twice daily, gently massage on face in circular motions, avoiding eye area. Rinse with tepid water and pat dry. Follow with toner or astringent.

Ingredients: Deionized Water,Glycerin,Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Aloe Vera Gel, Hyaluronic Acid, Thyme Extract, Chamomile Extract,Isopropyl Alcohol, Salicylic Acid,Triethanolamine,Propylene Glycol

There’s no foam at all, and for me it’s confusing since I’m used to cleanser that foamed. But I believe this old school method works as well. The cleanser is like a cloudy almost clear gel, that feels soft and slippery. It glides on the skin and I kept massaging until I think the whole area get some. Rinse with warm water, and hmm usually a facial cleanser for acne gives the skin a dry feeling, almost squeaky dry to even very squeaky dry, Mario Badescu’s Acne Facial Cleanser is NOT like that at all. In fact my sensitive cheeks are still so happy and moist as ever. It was the contradictory to ‘normal’ acne cleansing method, the cleanser actually calms the skin.

For me this is unique and a pleasing experience. I can use it for my pore congestion, yes, I have some pore congestion right below my nose and even on some images (no makeup) can clearly be seen. It’s like my nose is a dirt, sebum and sweat trap.

For the scent, no noticeable obvious strong scent.  A bit thyme perhaps but it’s all so mild, unlike the Enzyme Cleansing Gel.

Herbal Hydrating Serum

One of our most unique, versatile products for all skin types that doubles as a layering product to use over day or night moisturizers for extra hydration. Can also be used alone as a lightweight hydrator for oily skin. Formulated with Ginkgo Extract, Ceramides and Ginseng Extracts that provide nourishing benefits for the skin.

How to Use: Twice daily, layer 2-3 drops over a moisturizer or night cream or use alone in place of a moisturizer. Safe for eye area.

Ingredients: Deionized Water,Glycerin,Methylparaben,Triethanolamine,Propylene Glycol,Herbal Extracts: Ginseng Extract,Gingko Extract,and Ceramides

The Herbal Hydrating Serum is a total pleaser for any skin type as ANY skin need hydration and it gives the skin an instant result of hydration. Remember a moisturizer is still needed before the serum.

The Herbal Hydrating Serum is blue as in bright blue, on bare skin I can see the cracked, whitens skin become moist. Less fine lines too thanks to the hydrating ability. No scent at all. I think if anyone wants to try Mario Badescu skin care line for the first time, this would be the perfect product. Universal, oil free, soft nourishing and again, universal. I adore for being so lightweight, quick to absorb, no leftover, just pure soft, smooth and supple hydrated skin afterwards. The blue color also a bonus haha! I’m so into blue skincare.

I use it near the eyes, near the lips too and when I tested the products on my left hands, it become fairer and so much healthier than the right, superb!

Our Best Selling Daily Cleanser. This non-foaming, gel cleanser thoroughly removes the day’s make-up, dirt and oil without drying the skin. Papaya and Grapefruit Extracts are exfoliating Alpha Hydroxy Acids that help prevent dulling build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples.

How to Use: Twice daily, massage in a circular motion on wet skin avoiding eye area. Rinse with tepid water. Pat dry and follow with toner or astringent.
Ingredients: Deionized Water (Aqua),Glycerin,Papaya (Carica Papaya Fruit) Extract,Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis Fruit) Extract,Monomide,Triethanolamine,Methylparaben

Another non foaming cleanser but this one can be used for all skin type. Smells sooooo good, yummy and easily loved. And the tiny shining, glowing pearls of greens is so amazing. I’m looking at them and in awe, what are these?

The area cleaned by the enzyme cleansing gel dramatically looks clearer than the one’s not. It has made a big difference, I’m curious what will it do if I was getting a full sized product.

It seems like blackheads are my skin’s no.1 fan, they can’t get enough and kept coming back. This cleansing gel by Mario Badescu could be the answer of my problem. I’ll give it a week, or at least until I’ve finished using all of them presented here and stay tune ya ^__^

Another product from The Body Shop is here ^__^

This product has been a family favorite for quite some time. I’ve been married to my husband for 7 years and since the beginning we both love it, he has an acne prone skin while I’m a true hater of germs. So the theme tea tree brings where it has antibacterial agents just click me.

Bonus point: the self foaming cleanser made sure the foam are gentle and soft enough for any skin type.

A refreshing instant foaming cleanser to gently but effectively cleanse the skin, removing make-up, dirt and impurities. Regular use helps keep skin blemish free, refreshed and calm.

There is a slight tingling cool sensation while using it and I consider it as a bonus point. The cleansing properties also wonderful, gentle yet gives the skin the cleanliness it need skin the product made for acne skin type. It also lessen the sebum.

But even thou’ it claims to remove makeup, I still suggest to use makeup remover before this foam, since it wont be able to clean waterproof makeup nor thick heavy layers.

Whoopie! Another product by My Konjac Sponge is here! I’ve reviewed the one for sensitive skin: HERE, and the one for your beloved babies and kids: HERE. Now it is men time to have their skin cleanse with this super cute sponge. Well, actually it can be used by women too. The one who need special care involving acne and oil.

This is the product, a sponge shaped like water drop. A black water drop. But the texture and the feeling is almost the same with the 2 sponges I’ve tried, but slightly “tougher” in term of density and ingredients.

Here comes the review, I ask my husband to do the review. Thanks, dear!

This is him, showing angry face for hating the oils and germs at his skin. Acne become a constant visitor that probably many of use can related to. Products after products doesn’t seems to work and seems fed up with all the trial and error, but at the same time looking for something natural and from mother earth. This might be your answer,

The natural konjac sponge gently clean the skin without aggravating the inflammation and angry skin thanks to the acne. Now the sponge need no help cleaning the skin, you can use your fave facial foam or just let the sponge do their job alone. It’s not an instant reaction eliminating all the acne on your face, but the fresh, soft, calm feeling is instantly.

Finally, another product worth to be Hot Stuff of The Month, yup, in this month of love, let’s congratulate Talika Light 660, as the Hot Stuff of February 2012.

Here’s some product details from their book, we all know about acne, which is a bumpy thing on our skin that is either a combination between bacteria, blocked pores, excess lipid (oil) production, and in involves inflammatory and redness too.

Talika provide a solution. Light therapy in form of Light 660.

It works by providing certain light frequency to help the acne disappear.

By providing antibacterial properties, reduce excess sebum secretion, and anti inflammatory effects.

Result in 28 days:
Better sebum regulation
Bacterial and Inflammatory reduction around 28-30%.

These three useful properties will benefit those who have problem with acne and excess oiliness on their skin.

The light therapy is just beautiful and easy to use. 3 cm above your skin for 3 minutes 2x a day. The light therapy can be used alone without any other cream or medication, which made this tool very handy and simple. The blue light is too bright for my eyes, which is understandable by TALIKA, in the box eye protector is provided ^__^ neat!

I’m ready to use the product for 28 days, let’s do a review then, stay tune!

(Psst! Click on any image you wish to see it in larger view)

Staying in a friend’s house sometimes means using her products too heehee, thank you San San ^___^ and yup, different people use different product and what might be suitable for them, would not do the same to you.

In my own household my husband also uses Neutrogena and Oil-Free Acne Wash is one of his too. He like the product as it helps the oil on his face reduced, but me? My dry cheeks are screaming for moisture and dislike the product at all.

The lather is as lovely as the original Neutrogena, and so does how it feel during cleansing, smell, liquidity, color, well just about anything, until I rinse it up and dry my skin. Ow ow ow, I can feel it’s like a different sensation, a bit more drying, my nose is quite happy actually but my cheeks are suffering.

2 times using the product redness comes on my cheeks. That’s it, I think that’s the end of our relationship, it does what it does anyway, so my verdict? Suitable for acne prone and oily face, but a big no no to dry cheeks, dry skin and sensitive as well.

Yesterday I bought something from SAMPAR, after spending more than 15 minutes what a Rp.150.000 voucher can do and since I have no idea of the brand, quality and what their specialty, I decided to buy the cheapest one. Prodigal Pen that cost around Rp.235.000, I just top up Rp.85.000.

A bit information about SAMPAR that I found on their website:

What is a Prodigal Pen?

A smart, rollerball applicator dispenses eight essential oils that zap zits quickly and effectively. Plus, the compact size (2.5 inches) is totally portable, allowing ease of use – anytime, anywhere.

My review:

The unique scents is like refreshing and filled with essential oils, a bit chilling feeling on the skin and a (tiny) bit sting too. I applied it on my 2 acnes that suddenly just appeared out of nowhere last night. Like a pre-volcanic shape that just become a hill. I hate acne, they are a bothersome and can be quite tricky. So, I said to myself, why not give this Prodigal Pen a chance. After cleaning the area, I rolled in. This morning I wake up checking my zit . . . where are they? The size is reducing by far, if last night is 70% about to erupt, today they are 20% about to erupt. It really work!
I think it is one of the must try items of SAMPAR, pay them a visit at Grand Indonesia and ask the friendly staff, they will recommend you a perfect product according to your skin need, they insist on it. But unfortunately, not all the staffs are kind, friendly and full of smile, one of them (1/3) seems in a really crappy mood and she obviously let the customer see it.

WARNING about the product: You’ll easily get addicted to it!
